After Surgery

The Postoperative Rapid Recovery Program

Postoperative patient care is critical to the overall success of the Rapid Recovery Program. An effective after-care program helps patients achieve a more Rapid Recovery after joint replacement surgery.

The postoperative Rapid Recovery Program begins with a comprehensive exercise program for the patient. As patients become more mobile, they will need to exercise their joints to promote the rapid healing. Patients are encouraged to get up and walk as quickly as possible after surgery.

Rapid Recovery minimally invasive joint replacement patients typically recover quickly. Patients may be able to walk within 24 hours of their surgery. Generally, patients are able to return to driving in two to four weeks, dancing in four to six weeks and golfing in six to twelve weeks.

Goals of the Rapid Recovery Postoperative Program:

  • Early walking
  • Early return to activities of daily living
  • Return to driving in two to three weeks with good leg control
  • Return to other activities as tolerated and as early as possible
